We aim to never turn away a dog or cat in need of help, caring for them until their owners or loving new homes can be found, no matter how long it takes. We are champions for, and supporters of, vulnerable dogs and cats, determined to create lasting changes for animals in our society.

Story

Hello, Thank you so much for visiting my justgiving page and maybe donate for the cause I have done the challenge for. As I told a few of you already, I decided last minute to participate to a challenge for the Battersea dogs and cats home. I have sled in the Arctic from the 2nd to the 8th of February 2009 in the objective to raise money for the Battersea Dogs and Cats Home. The expedition was led by Across the Divide Expeditions. We had with us an experienced expedition doctor and a local guide with extensive knowledge of the dogs and the terrain. We crossed more than 230km of landscape with our own sled pulled by 4 to 6 huskies each. We travelled by the hours of daylight but also by night as we were late in our challenge with our departure from London and the snow which delayed our flight to start with. Most days were ranging between - 30 to - 35 degrees and one of us got frost bite on his finger. I got my ear nearly frost bite as well. We all came back with lots of bruises everywhere as it is not easy to stay hours on the sled without falling from it between the ice, the hills, the rocks or the trees. We slept in refuges which seem to be all very authentic at first but without water, heat or electricity. It involved us to get water from under the ice, warm ourselves with fires, light ourselves with candles and go to the loo in the ice which really was my least favourite thing to do :) Now, the best part of the sledding is the result as with your help we will be helping the thousands of abandoned lost cats and dogs that come through Battersea Home each year. Without your generosity Battersea Home wouldn't be able to continue their work and this year more dogs have been abandoned than the other years (certainly due to the credit crunch...). Whatever you will be able to give me will be a big help. They need it more than any other years as they are difficult times. The money you are donating go straight to the home and I am not getting anything from it. I have also put my name down to be a volunteer and help them once a week. I thank in advance anyone wanting to help. Sonia xx
