Together with our supporters, Barts Charity is there for patients and families in East London – through it all. We support pioneering research and the wellbeing of our brilliant NHS staff. We help to refurbish wards and provide Barts Health hospitals with the very best equipment.

Story

As you all know, in January this year I was diagnosed with triple negative breast cancer caused by a BRCA gene fault. This rare cancer (affecting 13 in 100,000) is particularly aggressive  due to its tumour growth rate, it is more likely to have spread at the time it is found and the outlook is generally not as good as it is for other types of breast cancer.

After 6 months of chemotherapy, immunotherapy and surgery I am so thankful to say that I have made a full recovery. However I would not be here today were it not for my oncologist Professor Peter Schmid. His vital research is helping to change the future outcomes of triple negative breast cancers due to his use of immunotherapy which reduces the risk of cancer recurrence. This research is particularly close to my heart because our girls Margot and Ines both have a 50% chance of developing the BRCA gene.

For this reason I have decided to set up this Just Giving page for Barts Charity which directly funds this research along with a few other incredible causes.

To you, my incredible friends and family, who have been the most amazing support system to me, I want to say thank you for getting me through the hardest year of my life. And if you would like to donate to Barts Charity I would be so unbelievably grateful.

(And yes that photo is my hair;)
