Please help us raise £35,000 for Tree of Hope to help Sophie Thomlinson receive a selective dorsal rhizotomy operation and help fund post operative physiotherapy and equipment
Hello,
My name is Sophie and I am 2 years old I was born premature at 33 weeks and weighed just 3lbs 8oz and I spent most of the first year of my life in hospital.
In July 2013 my mum and dad were told that I had a condition called spastic diplegia, a form of cerebral palsy that means I couldn't stand, walk or run like my friends do.
I have to do special excersises and use a standing frame for 1 hour every day which heleds my muscles and joints to get stronger.
My doctor had said there was an operation I can have when I was 4 called a Selective Dorsal Rhizotomy (SDR) which would help me walk but it may not be available on the NHS so my family and friends helped me by trying to raise enough money for me to have the operation and change my life forever!
I also need to have lots of physiotherapy after the operation and special equipment to help me.
Sophie
Hello friends I am now 9 years of old and doing ok! With all your help I am continuing therapy 4x a year. As I am growing I now need further surgery which will mean that I will need more physio, equipment and support ,I will need to learn to walk again it is going to be a long journey but mummy will be by my side as always.
As all of these things costs so much. we understand that this pandemic has been horrendous for everyone but I am hoping that all of my lovely supporters old and new would possible help me however possible.
We have all had a terrible last couple of years with all going on but I am strong and with help I can make my Tiny Steps into big Steps...
Thank you Sophie and Mummy.xx
I am now 13yrs old and continuing to have my physio at SDR Fitness Wales 4x year. Since my last update I have had two further surgeries to my legs at Alder Hey Children's Hospital. I had a Bilateral Femoral derotation and pins in both hips/legs. I have since had them removed and doing well. Our funds that have been raised so far are rapidly depleting as things like physio and equipment is expensive but very much needed.. Our target is to reach £95.000 we have already raised £67.289 but as previously stated the funds are becoming very low. My mum tries her very best to raise the funds in any way possible but she can not do it on her own and needs a little help. My dad also tried very hard to raise funds but unfortunately was taken away far too soon and we lost him to cancer. If I was not able to attend my private physio then my strength and muscles would weaken and waste away and I will be back in my wheelchair. I am a newly qualified teenager and one day I want to be able to walk in heels,go for walks around town, go to parties and shopping with my friends, but to do all this I need strength, stamina determination and support. And with friends, family and generous people like yourselves I know I will get there. I want to use my legs not wheels.
Thank you
Sophie.
Should we exceed the target amount (or if we do not raise enough funds, or if they cannot be used for any other reason) the funds raised will go to the general funds of Tree of Hope to assist other sick children.
