Story

Thankyou for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

As many of you will know, 'The Ice Bucket Challenge' has raised much needed funds for the MND association over the last couple of years.

What we didn't know whilst this fundraising was going on, was that my Dad would soon be diagnosed with ALS (otherwise known as Motor Neuron Disease).

Since Dad's diagnosis the MND association have been amazing. The team of both permanent and volunteer staff work tirelessly to support people affected by MND and have been there to answer the many difficult questions that suddenly arise following diagnosis. They are also busy conducting research studies in order totry to find a cure for MND and supporting people with MND and their families, none of which is government funded.

So…as some of you may know I have decided to embark on an epic ocean voyage to the Caribbean! I will be sailing in a tall ship named ‘Tenacious’ for 55 days. She, and Jubilee Sailing Trust’s other ship ‘Lord Nelson’ are the only ships of their kind in the world that have been designed and built to enable crews of all physical ability to sail side by side as equals. Sailing over 4500 nautical miles at sea, we''ll be stopping over in the Canary Islands and Cape Verde and finally after an exhilarating ocean passage across the Atlantic and into the crystal waters of the Caribbean I will arrive in Antigua.

I’ll be taking along a teddy named ‘Tenacious Ted’ who will be involved in all sorts of jobs onboard from mess duty all the way to climbing the yards! I’ll be trying to add photos as we make our way from the first and second leg of the journey and then on to cross the Atlantic. You can track our progress across the ocean on this website to keep updated when phone/internet signal diminishes: http://jst.org.uk/track-our-ships/

This challenge is a tiny in comparison with those that people with MND face every single day. They can’t take the harness off and say "I can’t do this today”.

So… to sponsor Ted and I to make it 4500 nautical miles at sea please hit the button below – any donation however small is greatly appreciated and will keep the fantastic work of the MND association going.

Thank you! x
