We‘re the world‘s leading cancer charity dedicated to saving and improving lives through research. We fund research into the prevention, detection and treatment of more than 200 types of cancer through the work of over 4,000 scientists, doctors and nurses.

Story

At the age of 43 I was diagnosed with breast cancer. With a small child and being a primary carer for my mother with dementia I thought my world had fallen apart. What would happen to me and would I be here to look after my family?  It was a tough time, but I got through it and 3 years on I'm still in remission and grateful for every day that passes cancer-free. I've participated in Race for Life many times in the past because I wanted to remember and celebrate dear friends who had been affected by this awful indiscriminating disease. This year I'm selfishly doing it just for me - to celebrate how far I've come from that time 3 years ago when I wasn't sure what was possible. I'm still not sure what will happen, but then do any of us? What I do know is that  I'm marking this event as a turning point for me and a time to truly start living again out of the shadow of cancer. Please give generously so people like me have the opportunity to keep on keeping on...

Anyway here is the standard blurb:

I'm joining Cancer Research UK's Race for Life this year. Please join the fight by digging deep and sponsoring me - it's quick, easy and totally secure.

Events like this are vital in funding Cancer Research UK's life-saving work into preventing, diagnosing and treating cancer. By sponsoring me, we can unite and create an army that cancer can't ignore. By sponsoring me, we will beat cancer sooner.
