Story
On Friday August 7th 2009, we sadly lost our wonderful and brave father. He fought pancreatic cancer until the very end and we will miss him always.
Dad got the terrible diagnosis on June 18th 2008 after suffering unexplained weight loss and lower backpain for about six months. The tumour was not big but it was akwardly situated - wrapped around veins and organs, unfortunately making it inoperable. The only treatment that the doctors could offer him was chemotherapy, which he started shortly after. It appeared to keep the cancer from spreading for some time. Unfortunately, in the Spring of 2009, his condition began to deteriorate and in early June 2009 he was no longer strong enough to receive treatment. We hoped that he would regain his strength so that he could continue with chemo, but a possible spread of the cancer to his lung, a lung drain, followed by a punctured lung, as well as continued pain made this difficult. Despite his strong fight, he lost the battle at 1.40am on August 7th 2009, surrounded by his whole family.
We all appreciate your support and thoughts! Instead of flowers, we know that Dad would have wanted us to channel your goodwill towards funding research into pancreatic cancer. The average survival rate of this little known cancer is currently a mere five months. We hope that research into early detection/diagnosis and different treatment options can improve these grim statistics.
Please help us reach our target in memory of our beloved Daddy Cool.
With love always,
Jens, Lars, Susanne, Louise, Johanne and Julie

On 24 October 2010 in Portsmouth, Susanne completed the Great North Run (10 miles/16 km) in 1:39:20 in memory of her dad. She raised additional money for Pancreatic Cancer Research Fund. Please continue to support this good charity that funds research into preventation, diagnosis and treatment of pancreatic cancer.
