Talisker Whiskey Atlantic Rowing Challenge · 1 December 2015

Rape Crisis England & Wales is the charity working to end sexual violence and abuse. We are the membership organisation for Rape Crisis Centres who deliver specialist services to those affected by sexual violence in England & Wales. Together we aim to educate, influence and make change.

Story

Up to 25 rowing teams comprised of solo rowers, pairs and fours will set off from La Gomera in the Canary Islands and compete to be the first to cross the finish line 3000 miles across the Atlantic Ocean in Antigua.  Each team will be completely self-sufficient – generating electricity from solar panels, filtering water from the Ocean and eating food all stored on board. Our team will experience extreme sleep deprivation, hallucinations, severe weight loss, physical pain and psychological exhaustion as we row around the clock in 2 hour shifts that could last up to 90 days. The journey is perilous as the team has to navigate through storms, 50ft waves, oil tankers, sharks and whales while keeping the equipment running and each other sane! At present more individuals have successfully climbed Everest and travelled into space than rowed across the Atlantic Ocean.  Square One Atlantic currently comprises of  – Sean Lannon, a software engineer and Lee Felton, a Biology teacher

We have no previous experience with rowing. We also have no previous experience with drowning.
