Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
My name is Sam Carvalho and I run a worldwide support website called Stand Up Stay Strong. I founded the website in September 2012... not long after I overcame many many years of depression, anorexia and bulimia myself.
My website is used by thousands of young people and adults when they need someone to turn to for advice or support. Even parents will contact me for advice and support on what to do when they're concerned their child may be hiding a problem such as self harm, depression or eating disorders. I am able to refer people to the correct services they may need, that even means that I can arrange that social services or their local mental health services contact them and get the ball rolling. Some urgent cases are referred to the emergency services by myself if deemed an imminent risk to themselves or someone else. Fortunately this isn't extremely common but more common than I or anyone would want.
One of the biggest problems with young people is that they're afraid to ask for help and take that first big step, that's what I help them overcome.
The job of maintaining and running the support system has been a job done solely by myself. I have not had a single day off since launching in September 2012 where I haven't had to volunteer my time to answering people in need. Having to deal with my own health problems and hospitalisations, I will continue, (and very well known for!) answering and replying to submissions for support whilst lying in my sickbed in a ward.
I created this fundraising page because a lot of people want to give me money for helping them or for the work I do.
But I do not personally accept donations because I do what I do because I like helping others, not because I wish to financially gain from it. So I usually I tell people who want to offer me money that I recommend that they donate it to a charity, and recommend a charity that I particularly like called MIND.
Well now I will suggest that they can now donate through my fundraising page here, where all the money raised will go to the amazing charity MIND who do amazing work for people will mental health illnesses and problems.
If you feel the work I do is worthy of 50p, a pound, ten pounds or more perhaps then please feel free to donate knowing your money is going to a charity that is helping to support those who really need the help.
