Trek to Base Camp Everest – 23 March – 8 April 2012
A Pilgrimage of Love in memory of Tony
I am undertaking this challenge in memory of my former boyfriend, Tony, who died suddenly aged 44 in May 2010.
Tony and I were at junior school together (St Joseph’s in Market Harborough) – he was the first boy to ever kiss me! He even turned up at the school disco with a box of Terry’s All Gold for me. We were 8 at the time! We went our separate ways then met up again when he saw my picture in the paper in 2005 when I was fundraising for the China trip. He rang and offered to help me with my training in preparation for the trek and our relationship blossomed from there. We were soul mates and while our relationship wasn’t always easy we loved each other deeply. I have very many happy memories of our time together – my life is certainly richer for it - and I feel blessed to have known him. He was a very special person and I would like to honour him by undertaking this challenge of trekking to Base Camp Everest in his memory.
Tony was the funniest man I know - he loved nothing better than to entertain. That's why, when it came to a choice of charity, Comic Relief was the obvious choice. This year it’s called Sport Relief, which is rather ironic, as anybody that knows me is well aware that I dislike sport (and like cake!) So this challenge represents a supreme effort on my part to pay tribute to Tony (who, by the way, loved sport!) I feel drawn to Everest because it is the ultimate challenge and somewhere we talked of going someday; Tony loved the mountains so I’ll carry him in my heart and take him there - I know he will be with me every step of the way.
Thanks for visiting my JustGiving page. I am funding this trip myself so every penny raised will go directly to the charity (including the £100 donation I have made). Please give generously for this worthy cause.
Many thanks in anticipation of your support.
Love and all good wishes
