Breaking News!! - I did make it to the Isle of Coll in my clapped out Renault 4 but on arrival I had to submit to a full medical from the sawbones on Coll. This was because I had not had a proper medical from my GP before I went up. If I had done so I could have adjusted my medication and this would have allowed me to run! (Check your medications with your GP monthly to avoid disappointment)
She decided that as we had storm force winds and my heart rate was in the low forties I could not run as the air ambulance would not be able to land and cart me off to the Hospital on the main land if I collapsed on route!! I will be making another attempt after my Cardioversion where I will be timed and it will be official - so please keep donating.
Thanks for taking the time to visit my Justgiving page.
Just over a year ago I suffered from a major heart attack, if it was not for the quick thinking of my GP I certainly wouldn't be here right now.
Although I am not totally over the hill - I am a sprightly 51 - it came as a shock and I have had to make major changes to my diet and lifestyle.
In the past heart attack victims were sent home and told to take it easy for the rest of their days. Now the clever boffins have found that just the opposite is required. When I was released from Salisbury Hospital I started a "Cardiac Rehab" course that put me through exercises and worked me really hard, and this has converted me into the Adonis you see now! I would like to extend my special thanks to Sally Grant for her support and continual nagging! For without Sally I would have fallen at thre first hurdle.
I will be competing in the Isle of Coll Marathon on the 20th August to prove to others like me, that after a heart attack you don't have to sit in your arm chair in front of the fire dribbling into your tea.
Please sponsor me to drive my ancient Renault 4 all the way to Scotland, run the Coll marathon and drive it all the way back - all in a weekend.
All the proceeds will be donated to the Cardiac Rehab unit at Salisbury Hospital as they desperately need new equipment to help carry on the important work. Many Thanks for your time and hopefully your generous donations - and don't forget to gift aid any donations.
Cheers
Steve Ogg
