22  brave but foolish souls from the UCB PHARMA BONE TEAM ( British and Irish Isles) are attempting the scary and intimidating Tough Mudder course...5K on Clapham Common with ten strategically placed energy sapping , pulse racing , adrenalin inducing obstacles that will challenge this unprepared team physically and mentally. This ambitious effort is all in aid of raising awareness of World Osteoporosis Day on 20th October and to raise funds for the registered charity - The National Osteoporosis Society.

Osteoporosis is a condition in which bones lose their strength and are more likely to break. People with osteoporosis are more likely to break a bone after a simple fall, lifting a heavy object or moving in a way that twists the spine. In the UK alone, there are an estimated 500000 new fragility fractures every year, that's one every minute.

The National Osteoporosis Society is a registered charity which has the following mission:

1) To improve the bone health of our nation and prevent osteoporosis

2) To influence healthcare providers and professionals to deliver high quality healthcare so that people are assessed and treated for osteoporosis earlier

3) To provide the best information, support and services to help people with osteoporosis live well

4) To drive the research and development of new treatments and therapies that will ultimately beat osteoporosis

UCB Pharma are committed to match any monies raised and donate this amount to the Irish Osteoporosis Society.
