UPDATE: Smashed the GNR (by smashed I mean did it in under 3 hours). Now I am about to smash the Great South Run too. Please give if you can.
I'm running the Great North Run on Sunday 12th September to raise money for prostate cancer UK.
WHY?
I am a consultant pathologist and on a weekly basis I diagnose multiple cases of prostate cancer and I regularly attend multidisciplinary team meetings to discuss management of prostate cancer patients. It's a common disease and can have significant repercussions. Here's some facts about prostate cancer in the UK:
- Prostate cancer is the most common cancer in men.
- More than 47,500 men are diagnosed with prostate cancer every year – that's 129 men every day.
- Every 45 minutes one man dies from prostate cancer – that's more than 11,500 men every year.
- 1 in 8 men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer in their lifetime.
- Around 400,000 men are living with and after prostate cancer.
Please donate generously to this cause. I was meant to run this last year and had no intention of begging for donations, I was planning a whole load of amazing comedy nights to raise money instead. Needless to say covid put paid to those plans and the race itself.
