Story
Thank you for visiting my Just Giving page.
I'm taking part in the Edinburgh Kiltwalk to raise money for The Polar Academy. The Polar Academy are an amazing charity who work with 13–18-year-olds with mental health challenges or who lack the self-esteem and confidence to achieve their full potential. Each year the Polar Academy works with a group of 15 young people from two Scottish schools putting them through intensive physical training. As can be seen in the picture above, the programme culminates around March with 10 from each school taking part in an unsupported expedition in Greenland during which they carry out scientific experiments and generally explore, often up unclimbed mountains. Following the training and the expedition those formerly shy and retiring individuals will talk in front of hundreds of other young people showing them that they too can achieve whatever they want to.
I'm raising money for the Polar Academy because this year they are working with Dalkeith High School and my son Peter has been chosen to be part of the team. So that no-one is excluded on financial grounds, the expeditions are fully funded by The Polar Academy, but we need to contribute as much as we can to the fundraising so that they can provide all the training and high performance equipment that is needed for the expeditions, none of which is cheap. Anything that you can dontate will be very much appreciated. Thank you.
