"Using the power of Derby County Football Club to improve lives and communities through sport, physical activity, health and education".

Story

Staff from St. Giles School, Derby, will be giving up their May half term holiday to travel to Kenya to be a volunteer. Their mission is to help children and their families who live in severe poverty. The exact location of travel is Nakuru, which is one of the poorest suburbs in Kenya.

Clive Lawrence (Headteacher), Rob Sherwood (Assistant Headteacher) and Beth Rogers (Lead Teacher for Global Learning) will be accompanied by year a 6 pupil, who has Special Educational Needs. He was chosen after winning the most votes at a recent pupil council meeting.

During the visit we will:

*Assist with teaching and help to develop teaching styles and curriculum for local schools in Kenya

*Help with the feeding programme at these schools

*Construct and build new classrooms in a local village

*Coach sports sessions to Kenyan children

*Take lots of gifts (gathered through donations) to offer to the Kenyan children and their families e.g clothes, shoes, exercise books and toys

As the project is run in partnership with Derby County Community Trust, a percentage of the money raised goes towards this project too. This will help to sustain their disability program which delivers tailored, inclusive sports sessions throughout Derbyshire for children and adults with physical and mental disabilities.

As a special needs school, pupils at St. Giles directly benefit from the disability program, through regular access to sports coaching sessions as part of their PE lessons.

In order to fund this project, Clive, Rob and Beth are looking to raise £5000 through donations and sponsorship.

Any contribution would be greatly appreciated, no matter how small - every little helps!

Thanks 😊
