The British Skin Foundation Skin Cancer Appeal is close to both of our hearts, having both been affected by people close to us suffering with skin cancer. Skin cancer is a devastating disease, and has personally affected both of us. Stu's Grandad died of skin cancer and his dad developed a type of skin cancer in 2000, and needed a number of treatments and operations over the next 9 years before he was fortunately cleared of the disease. Many of you will also know Ivor Tattum whom we lost to the disease a few years ago. Skin cancer is extremely stressful on both the individual and the surrounding friends and family.
There are
200 new cases of skin cancer diagnosed every day in the UK, and it is
rising faster than any other type of deadly cancer. In as many as 4 out
of 5 cases, skin cancer is a preventable disease. The money we raise
will go directly to the BSF and will help the eight million people in
the UK with a serious skin condition, as well as getting one step
closer to finding a cure to the disease.
The majority of people
in the UK do not take care of their skin nearly enough, and we feel
that anything that we can do to help highlight the devastating affects
of the disease can only be positive. The BSF is a great cause, and we
hope that the money we raise can make a difference.
