Here goes and this is the hardest/scariest thing I will do and hopefully a surprise to many. On Thursday 4th October I was discharged having received treatment over the last 6 months for depression and anxiety. I was not coping very well following my injury I sustained back in November and struggled with the recovery. Jo (my wife) had become concerned with my behaviour back in February as I started withdrawing myself from family life and at times in a permanent mood. Work became my distraction, I really enjoy what I do and it took my mind of everything but only masked the problem I guess.

I am doing this to raise awareness and show anyone out there who is suffering that you can get help without telling the world. I felt shame, embarrassment and guilt that it was happening to me. It took me a long time to do anything about it, ignoring the concerns my wife had but the most important thing looking back was that I actually got help and would encourage anybody to reach out. The treatment I received was CBT, sleep hygiene and worry management, the technics that I was given worked and I am still using them now and I am feeling great.

Its amazing how your mind works, I started self doubting the man I became, not living up to the husband or dad I set out to be. I started questioning myself in my job but I have learned how to manage it.
