We provide veterinary expertise to save endangered species

Story

WVI is a British charity which has been providing critical veterinary support to international wildlife and conservation projects since 2004.  They have been ensuring that specialised veterinary assistance is provided to local organisations fighting to save endangered species worldwide.

Part of WVIs’ focus is the conservation of two of our most iconic big cats; Tigers and the Amur Leopards, which are both on the brink of extinction from human encroachment, habitat destruction, poaching and diseases such as canine distemper.

Listed as Critically Endangered on the IUCN Red List, what does this actually mean?
It means that there are only 70 Amur Leopards, and an estimated 400 Sumatran tigers left in the wild...and less still of the other tiger subspecies.  With all of them on the brink, WVIs’ support is crucial.

We are running the Tough Mudder HALF event in May to support WVIs’ big cat projects, in which they are carrying out their vital work to conserve these remaining populations through on the ground veterinary work and training of local vets and organisations.

The money we raise through this event will go into supporting the tiger health programme being carried out by WVI across several countries to tackle canine distemper and also their amur leopard project.  Additionally, 10% of donations raised will be contributed to WVIs other animal projects.

Our team consists of 11 dedicated and passionate Zoo Keepers who want to help turn the tide on extinction.  Some of the team work with penguins, others primates or birds, some have never even worked with big cats but that doesn’t prevent their passion for their survival in the wild.

We are asking you to help us support WVI and their work in the fight to save these majestic big cats.

We appreciate all donations big and small.  Here is where your donations will go:

- £20 to vaccinate a domestic dog creating disease barrier for endangered carnivores
- £42 will anaesthetise a 200kg Bengal tiger
- £80 to test blood for disease
- £500 for a day’s training from an expert field vet

Thank you for taking the time to visit our justgiving page, and for your support of big cat conservation.
