Biking for Children in Care · 27 June 2019
From 27th June to 1st July I will be pedalling some 200 miles through the French countryside with Biking for Children in Care to raise money to support the work of Become - a charity that exists to improve life for children in the care system. I’m a very keen supporter of the work they do. Become has been giving young people in care a voice since it was set up in 1992. Become believes that local councils – ‘corporate parents’ – should treat children and young people in and from care as well as we treat our own children. At present, that doesn’t always happen. And we think that everyone should be helped to understand why young people come into care – not because they are bad, but because bad things have happened to them. I'll be riding with over 50 riders who every year raise essential funds for Become. So far this group has been raised over £750k since 2002. Help us make it £1m!! I’d really appreciate your support.
And if you’d like to know a bit more about Become please do go to their website becomecharity.org.uk But for now, thanks for reading and I do thank you for any donation you are to make – even a few pounds will help!
What Become does;
At any one time there are around 91,000 children in care in the UK. The vast majority are there as a result of family breakdown, loss, abuse or neglect. Their chances of becoming long-term unemployed, homeless and involved in crime are significantly higher than their peers, not because of who they are but because of what has happened to
them.
Become is a small and effective UK-wide charity that empowers and supports children and young people in care to improve their life chances and get their voices heard. Become;
Influences improvements in policy and practice by ensuring the views and experiences of children in care are heard at the highest level.
Develops innovative, collaborative projects which pilot new ways of working and disseminate best practice across the care system
Informs and supports thousands of children in care directly through the website, helpline and support materials designed specifically for them.
Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving - they'll never sell them on or send unwanted emails.
