You probably already know that I love swimming and I love Mexico. A month ago, there were several devastating earthquakes in my country and lots of people lost their homes, lots of buildings were damaged and they are still trying to recover.
I have recently joined a Mexican network that supports a UK Charity (Compass Children), which in turn supports Mexican street children through Casa Alianza Mexico.
Casa Alianza Mexico (Compass Children's Charity in the UK) provides care and protection for boys and girls ages 12 to 18 who have experienced social abandonment, including abuse, neglect, violence, addiction, sexual exploitation and human trafficking. Casa Alianza provides a safe space for these children through 6 homes in Mexico City and a separate home for teen mums and their babies.
Three of the seven Casa Alianza shelters were severely damaged and declared unsafe. Over 50 children, as well as over 20 adolescent mothers and their children had to be evacuated because the building was unsafe.
A friend from Mexico, happens to be in the UK and we decided we would like to raise funds to help them with their reconstruction and let them recover the stability they so much need and were benefiting from.
On the 11th of November, we will be sharing a 10km marathon swim,
and bearing the 5k swim each at the Olympic pool (Stratford) in order to raise funds. Would you sponsor us?
