Sandringham Lakes Challenge 2010 - Team Sykes · 17 September 2010

Working in partnership with the school, the charity exists to support the financing of projects that cannot be funded from the schools state budget.

Story

Well we did it... :)

Over one hundred people spent two days out on the mountains, covered more than 15 miles over rough terrain, with 25lbs or more on their backs (and that was just the kids), wild camping in driving rain and gale-force winds... not your average weekend...

Without doubt the hardest thing we've ever done as a family. And Sue, Lucy, Jack and Chloe were simply magnificent.

So - many thanks to everyone that has contributed so far - we (and FOSS and Grove House) really do appreciate it !

-----------

Insanity is infectious (or hereditary)...

Not content with seeing their dad continue to have a go at mountains far too big for him, the Sykes sprogs have decided to teach the old dog a trick or two (again).

Lucy, Jack and Chloe (along with their crack-pot mother Sue), are attempting the Sandringham Lakes Challenge this September, intending to trek the best part of twenty miles, climb at least 12 mountains, and wild-camp to boot !

Oh, and their old man might make an appearance at some stage too.

They are all currently in training on the awe-inspiring North Face of St Albans (aka Holywell Hill...), readying themselves for:

- 14-16 hours of intense physical exertion...

- around 7,000 feet (over 2,000m) of ascent and descent...

- A walking distance of more than 17 miles...

- Wild-camping in the (no doubt very wet) mountains...

- And the ultimate challenge - their first Pot Noodle.

- In other words - further than a half marathon, over some of the roughest terrain in Britain, with over 25lbs of gear on their backs, camping in the wild... and no proper toilets...

Yep, it's tough being a modern sprog.

The money raised will be split between Grove House Hospice (http://www.grove-house.org.uk/) who will receive 20% of all donations, and Friends of Sandringham School (FOSS) which is the charity that raises funds to benefit all students at Lucy, Jack and Chloe's school.

So thank you for visiting our fundraising page. Please dig deep and sponsor us online now - before we all change our minds !

Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to sponsor us: Friends of Sandringham School will receive your money faster and, if you are a UK taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you. We will then be passing on at least 20% of everything raised to Grove House.
