Sepsis accounts for 48,000 deaths annually in the UK, that’s more than breast, bowel and prostate cancer put together. Sepsis is what happens when our immune system overreacts to an infection. Symptoms initially present as flu like but can rapidly deteriorate into a life threatening condition.

Story

Starting Point:   Aranjuez, Madrid, Spain.

End Point:          Belem Tower, Lisbon, Portugal.

Dates:                 5th – 28th July 2018.

journey begins on the riverbanks of Aranjuez, in the Communidad de Madrid (https://whc.unesco.org/en/list/1044).

There I will join the Tagus River, the longest in the
Iberian Peninsula and one of the longest in Europe.

From there we will traverse over 750km of meandering river,
through:

  • 20 dams
  • 5 lakes
  • 2 national parks
  • 15 bridges; and
  • under the longest bridge in Europe (Vasco de
    Gama in Portugal).
