Huntington's Disease Association England and Wales exists to support anyone who is affected by Huntington's disease. It pursues the best possible care; provides training and advice to families and professionals; raises awareness, and promotes research towards better treatment and care.

Story

This summer I will be attempting to climb the three British Peaks Challenge, Ben Nevis, Snowdon and Scafell Pike aiming to walk them in under 24 hours. The total walking distance is 23 miles (37km) and the total ascent is 3064 metres (10,052ft). The total driving distance is 462 miles. All the money raised will go towards Huntington's Disease Association and Mind charity for men's mental health, which is a charity that supports families affected by Huntington's disease, they have helped my family out in the past. They also fund research programmes to try and find new tests to slow down the development of HD or cure it.

Huntington's disease has affected my family massively over the past 5 years. Both my Dad and Granny have died because of the illness. My Dad sadly took his own life last year 05.02.19, this is due to not having enough professional support around him to make sure that he is coping with everyday struggles. By raising money for HDA this will allow other families affected by HD to be able to have the support they need. HD affects the whole family; when I was 15 my dad had to leave home, living in hospital for 2 years. During my time at sixth form, I supported him even when it was so tough to do so. It breaks my heart to think of how low he must have felt to take his own life. HD robbed him of his job, his family and his home, most of all it robbed him of his life. Not only that but it took away a father from his family, he is missed every day. I want to raise money in remembrance of him, and what better way to do it! He loved the outdoors, he lived in the lake district as an outdoor instructor for a couple of years! There are pictures of him walking me up Coniston Old Man on his back before I could even walk.

Any donations are very much appreciated. My aim is to try and do something most years to raise money for HDA. The three British peaks challenge is the first of many. I have marathons, huge bike rides and loads of cool plans in the future to raise money for the charity. Huntington's Disease is the most awful illness and there is massive research being done to try and find cures. By donating you may able to help this cause and save many lives in the future.
