Story
Join us to Save Lives:
For the last two years we challenge ourselves to run 13.1 miles in Leeds Half Marathon to save lives of those who are unable to afford their treatment. Last year, we managed to raise £3,000 for Imran Khan Cancer Appeal.
Eight of us took part in Leeds Half Marathon (from right to left) Aamir Qadeer, Tariq Qadeer, Dr Mughal, Ikhlaq Ahmad, Abdul Rehman, Sheikh Yaqoob, Amin Maksar & Bhavna Patel. It is never easy to finish thirteen miles but knowing our hard work will help cancer victims kept us going and we all touched the finish line with Dr Mughal being the fastest finishing within 2 hours 2 minutes.
Cancer is now more widespread than ever but fortunately it is not a certain death sentence as it was portrayed in the past. Everyone has heard of someone who has cancer or someone who has lost their battle against cancer from the very famous to the poor. Cancer is becoming a day to day reality as more and more people are diagnosed with the illness. Here in the UK, we are so lucky to have the best treatment and care and that patient do not have to pay for it, whereas in poorer countries it can still be extremely difficult to find good treatment as the National Health Service does not exist. Even if they manage to find a good doctor or treatment, in most cases they cannot afford to pay for the treatment as it is very expensive.
Imran Khan’s mother died of cancer and during the course of her illness he realised that the poor had no hope of meeting the cost of treatment and he set a goal to establish a specialist cancer hospital. As a result, in 1994, a $24 million state of the art cancer hospital was opened in Lahore, Pakistan. The hospital provides financially assisted cancer treatment to over 72% of its patients so that a poor could have a HOPE of life if diagnosed with cancer.
We are looking forward to participate again this year. Please join us and do something wonderful for thousands of cancer victims. You could email us at: info@ikca.co.uk or ring us on 01274 424 444.
