Story

In September 2014 Team Joanne Hamilton will be running the Scottish Half Marathon and Duo Challenge to raise as much money as possible for Chest Heart and Stroke Scotland in memory of our beautiful mum and friend, Joanne Hamilton.

On 21st Febuary 2012 we lost the most amazing, beautiful and loving woman in our lives, our mum, Joanne Hamilton.

Her death was sudden and unexpected, having suffered a severe stroke which ultimately took her life. Our loss is incomprehensible but we are comforted by the knowledge that she has touched so many lives and even in death has helped so many, by selflessly donating her organs.

She was taken from us so suddenly that over the last 2 years it has been so very hard to come to terms with what has happened. She has left a huge hole in our hearts that can never be filled.

Our mum was an incredible and brave woman. Having suffered a stroke at the age of only 45, her life and our lives were devastated and turned upside down. Her recovery was an immense struggle, but she was determined to carry on and live her life, especially for us, her children.

She found comfort in volunteering for Chest Heart and Stroke Scotland in their charity shop in Haddington. This was something she loved, meeting new people and getting out of the house, it helped her to rebuild her confidence after such a devastating and life changing event.

Sadly on the 21st Febuary 2012, our mum suffered a catastrophic stroke from which she could not recover, and she passed away in Edinburgh Royal Infirmary with her family around her.

Chest Heart and Stroke Scotland helped our mum immensely with her recovery from her first stroke and it was a charity very close to her heart. Now that she has gone, we want to raise as much money as possible for CHSS in memory of our beautiful mum so that she will never ever be forgotten.

The Scottish Half marathon and duo challenge in September is a massive challenge for all of us, especially as some of us have never run before. Some of the team are expert marathon runners (Sarah Barrow ;) ) and some of the team are starting from ZERO fitness!!!

It will be a huge effort for all of us and running as a team will help spur us over that finish line, especially as the event is 2 days before our mum's birthday and poor Dylan Hamilton will be running his first ever half marathon on his 18th birthday!!

So please dig deep for an incredible cause and help us raise an amazing amount of money for an amazing charity and an amazing woman!

Thank you xxxx

Any money that you can donate, no matter how little, will mean the world to us and the memory of our mum, Joanne Hamilton.
