A continuation on the theme of 'Bad ideas for a good cause'...

In early 2023 I was walking along the canal nearby wondering what I could do this year to raise more funds for these brilliant charities, when I saw a sign. An actual sign. You know, the old school ones that tell you on either side how far it is to a destination along the canal. I did some quick maths, around about 130 miles from Liverpool to Leeds, just over 5 marathons and all quite local as far as these things go.

And that was that, I booked some days off work and the ultra marathon training plan began.

I have no doubt that this will be the hardest one yet. It's not an official race, there won't be anyone to cheer me on or give me water and an energy gel, certainly no masseuse at the end! But you know what, it still isn't as much of a logistical challenge as it can be for some people with MND to just get out of the house to join in with social events, get some fresh air, even do the basics of living. So until the day comes when getting that diagnosis isn't so final, I'm afraid I'm going to be asking for more of your money for me to do things I regret signing up for.

Once again the point of it all is to raise some more funds for this brilliant charity and the life improving work they do. As a family we have been incredibly fortunate to have had almost 7 years and counting with Dad, most are not so lucky. The money raised will help support families who are facing the challenges that an MND diagnosis brings and fund vital research in to this currently incurable and untreatable disease.
