Story

Cycling Around Leicestershire for Rainbow Africa 🚴‍♂️

On 23rd May 2026, a two small groups of determined cyclists will take on two epic challenges to raise funds for the incredible work of Rainbow Africa.

The teams will be riding separate routes around Leicestershire, a 100km route and a 209km route.

The 100km team: Carl Morris, Steve Clarke, Rob Stone, Greg Montgomery. The 200km team: Mike Smith, Adam Webb, Patrick Stone, Andy Sneesby.

The “Leicester Round Ride for Rainbow Africa” is not just a long day in the saddle. The routes include over 7,000 feet of climbing, taking in some of the county’s toughest hills including Bardon Hill, Beacon Hill, and Burrough Hill. It will be a true test of endurance, determination, and teamwork.

But every mile we ride has a purpose.

Why We’re Riding

For over 30 years, Rainbow Africa has been transforming lives in Livingstone, supporting vulnerable children and families with education, healthcare, and community support.

What began in 1995 as a small project has grown into a thriving community hub that now provides:

• Education for more than 450 children in Livingstone

• Pre-school education for young children at their second base in Muzoka

• A Sponsored Children programme supporting 100 children with the opportunity to receive an education they would otherwise miss

• Employment for over 50 local staff

• Food, housing and support for vulnerable families in rural communities

• Homes for 17 grandparents who are raising their grandchildren due to the impact of low life expectancy in Zambia

The organisation’s centre in Livingstone is located just 11km from the world-famous Victoria Falls, yet many of the families it supports live with extreme hardship.

Rainbow Africa provides stability, opportunity, and hope where it is needed most.

Our Challenge

Cycling 209 km in one day with thousands of feet of climbing will push us to our limits. There will be tired legs, steep hills, and many hours on the road.

But compared to the challenges many of the children and families supported by Rainbow Africa face every day, our ride is small.

Every donation will help support education, food, and care for those who need it most.
