2020km in 2020

Raising money for World Bicycle Relief

In many rural areas across the globe children are denied access to basic needs due to the barrier of distance. World Bicycle Relief’s mission is to provide sustainable, appropriate bicycles to mobilise and empower individuals and communities so they can travel to schools, clinics and markets.

Story

For 2020 I am feeling very energetic, and I want you all to feel very charitable! My goal is to ride 2020km (or around 1255 miles) in the year, and if I am going to do so I would also like to make it even more worthwhile. Which is where you come in. I would love to be able to raise £2020 in total for two different charities.

These are World Bicycle Relief and Friends of the Earth Scotland. The reasons for choosing these charities is actually fairly simple. World Bicycle Relief do some fantastic work in Africa to help change people's lives. It would be fair to say that cycling has changed my life as well so I would like to be able to use it to give back.

Friends of the Earth Scotland is, clearly, closer to home. Living on Islay means that I do see some of our environmental problems first-hand. A walk on any beach and you will see the scale of the problem of ocean plastics. So, while I do think the climate issues is global (Australian, the Amazon and California all experiencing major wildfires within the last year or so), it is also so important to take action locally.

I will be using my blog (vegancyclingislay.co.uk) and my Instagram account (@vegan_cycling_islay) to keep you updated on my rides (amongst other things). In the words of the YouTube channel Seth's Bike Hacks; thanks for riding with me today.
