We are taking on the 3 Peaks in 24hour challenge on the 24th June 2024.

Why this crazy lapse of judgement I hear you ask … well we want to raise funds and awareness of 2 extremely worthy charities, Huntington’s Disease Assocation (HDA) and Multiple System Atrophy (MSA).

Both diseases are very rare with only c.7000 diagnosed with HDA and c.3300 diagnosed with MSA in the UK.

At this time there is no cure for either.

Very sadly in 2021 we lost Ryan’s mum Sue to MSA which is a progressive neurological disorder that is caused by degeneration or atrophy (shrinking) of nerve cells in several (or multiple) areas of the brain. This can result in problems with multiple bodily functions such as speech, movement, balance and blood pressure control.

HDA affects the body’s nervous system – the network of nerve tissues in the brain and spinal cord that co-ordinate the body’s activities. Donna’s mum was diagnosed in 2017, having lost her grandad Fred earlier to the illness.

With HDA there is 50% chance of inheriting the disease from a parent who has the positive gene, fortunately with MSA that is not case.

We want to complete this challenge to raise as much awareness of these diseases and funds to support the research into treatments and hopefully one day find a cure.

The challenge involves climbing the three highest peaks of Scotland, England and Wales, within 24 hours.

The total walking distance is 23 miles (37km) and the total ascent is 3064 metres (10,052ft).
