Story

Thanks for coming to our JustGiving page for the 520 running club in support of Cancer Research UK.

On a cold day in January an idea was born to put ourselves through a bit of pain in 2022 in support of a great cause.

Dave Whiteman, James Booth, Ramon Sijmonsma, Stacy Sturgeon-Brown, Sanj Singh, Rebecca Nix and Richard Washington are committed to running 10k every week this year to get to 520k by New Years Eve this December.

We'd love your support to get us through the mental and physical blocks and push us towards our goal of showing up all year to raise some funding to help Cancer Research UK say a big F U to cancer.

Here are our reasons for running to raise money for this cause,

JB:

I’m running because Cancer will not win, we all know someone that’s been through cancer and have even lost someone through cancer. I’ve had a few close people go through cancer, my best friend lost his 4yr old son to cancer my dad beat throat cancer the mother of my child recently got the all clear from breast cancer and I battled it myself at the age of 21 if fundraising can help cure someone else then I’m in. Let’s do this 🏃‍♂️

DW:

I’m running to support the desire to combat this evil disease. I’ve seen it rip families apart and I’ve recently watched my wife battle breast cancer for the last 3 years. I’ve watched the gruelling treatment she’s had to endure, the changes she’s had to go through and the constant fear she has of it returning. My kids have seen things they should never have to see and there is absolutely nothing we can do about it. Running a few miles a week is a small price to pay if it helps improve the research and resources to help others for years to come when having to go through the pain that sadly too many people do. I’m proud to be doing it with a great bunch of lads and I look forward to conquering the physical and mental obstacles this challenge brings.

SS:

Lost a loved on to cancer? Yeah, me too. Even when you’re strong enough to beat cancer, life is never the same again. In December 2021, I said my final goodbye to the second relative in 3 years due to cancer which is why I will be completing the 520km in 365 days challenge. Any money raised will be donated to the cancer research UK foundation to help find a cure for this terrible disease.

SSB:

Having seen how destructive cancer is with friends and family including a recent loss of a friend from Leukaemia, I’m tired of letting cancer cause the heartache that I’ve seen and felt. Let’s put a stop to cancer, a stop to losing loved ones and help all of us beat it from causing heartache again!

RN:

Why am I running? Where to start... for my partner Jake who had cancer at 19, his father who passed away at a young age, my coach Laura who passed away recently who, set me up on my career in the right direction and also my mum who’s just gone through treatment for breast cancer and everyone else who has suffered from this shitty disease & what it does to their families. Why not work together for this great cause and beat this bitch!!! ♥️

RW:

I'm running because I can and because others can't. Because we have all been and will continue to have our lives and the lives of the people we love most affected by this brutal and cruel disease. Because if we can do something that inspires people to contribute to help fund research in to the treatment and cure of cancer... Well then we're helping them get one step closer. Because 520km scares me, but I know its a temporary pain that's my choice. And we want to help take away the kind that isn't.
