Raising money for My Name'5 Doddie Foundation and Motor Neurone Disease Association

Story

MND? There is no polite way of putting this MND is an incurable disease. HOPELESS (OR IS IT)?

In the UK 5000 people are living with MND today. 4 people are diagnosed with MND every day. 4 people die of MND every day. THERE IS NO CURE!!! THERE IS NO EFFECTIVE TREATMENT!!! If you are diagnosed with MND you will die. HOPELESS

Let’s put this into perspective in a 50,000 seater football stadium 165 people have MND. A majority of them will not have had the diagnosis yet but when they get the diagnosis they will hear these words:

“I am sorry to have to tell you the diagnosis is MND There is currently no cure or treatment I am really sorry” HOPELESS

How long have I got? Is the usual reaction.

The honest answer is no-one knows it is very individual however 50% of people die in the first 2 years. The majority of the other 50% die in the next year. A vast majority 85% of people die of MND within 3 years of diagnosis. THERE IS NO CURE!!! THERE IS NO EFFECTIVE TREATMENT!!! HOPELESS

So why am I telling you this? Gill my wife was diagnosed with MND on the 25th March 2019 @ 9:14am a date & time burned into my mind. Gill passed away on 6th August 2021 @ 10:07pm another date and time I will never forget.

Gill was the most wonderful person she helped everyone nothing was too much trouble for Gill a truly remarkable women. Patience Compassion Knowledge these words were certainly made for Gill. The most caring warm generous person you could have had the pleasure of meeting, sadly taken by MND.

Gill made me promise not to do any daft fundraising events until after she passed away so I kept that promise. Before Gill passed away we discussed what I should do to provide HOPE for people suffering with MND & those who will be diagnosed with MND. I will be trekking up Kilimanjaro to raise awareness & much needed money for the MNDA & My Name’5 Doddie Foundation because we believe in a world free of MND we believe we can provide HOPE

Thank You
