Story

On the 29th of September 2021 we’ll be attempting to complete the “The Everest at Snowdon Challenge”. This will involve ascending and descending mount Snowdon, as quickly as possible to reach the height of Everest.

I’ve done some research… Mount Everest stands at a whopping 8,849m. Mount Snowdon is just 1,085m. Therefore the peak of the mountain will have to be summited nine times to pass the height of Everest! On average it takes 4-6 hours to complete one full ascent and descent of mount Snowdon. Therefore the challenge will have a time cap of 48 hours.

We’ll be attempting this challenge to raise money for the mental health charity - MIND. MIND supports those who are challenged every day by mental illness. The charity works hard to help individuals who are struggling with negative and potentially suicidal thoughts. It’s almost been a year now since the first UK COVID-19 lockdown. The effects of COVID-19 on peoples mental health has been devastating. The Mental Health Foundation, published stats pre-Christmas 2020…

“Over half (54%) of the adult UK population have felt anxious or worried in the previous two weeks because of the pandemic.”

“Just over one in five (22%) of the UK adult population reported feeling hopeless.”

I’m hoping to assemble a team as big as possible to take on this challenge. If you’re interested please get in touch. I understand climbing Snowdon nine times is not for everyone! However, the more the merrier, so if you would still like to give it a go please get involved and climb the mountain as many times as you think you can. We can make a difference.

For this to challenge to go ahead I’ll be relying on current COVID-19 restrictions to be lifted, as I’m sure many of us are.
