The Bog Womblers completing the Welsh 3 Peaks Challenge.

On the 8th July 2022 10 people plus 2 support members from across Landmarc and Defence Infrastructure Organisation (DIO) are attempting to complete the Welsh 3 Peaks Challenge to raise awareness and hopefully some money for Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen and Families Association (SSAFA) charity.

SSAFA is the Armed Forces charity, formerly known as Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen and Families Association, and is a UK-wide charity that provides lifelong support to serving men and women and veterans from the British Armed Forces and their families or dependents.

SSAFA supported 79,540 individuals with their charitable services in 2020. In addition, through their commercial contracts, they continue to support the serving Armed Forces and their families in the UK and overseas.

4,751 volunteers completed 24,772 visits and cases. With national lockdown restrictions in place for the majority of the year, caseworking visits are significantly down on last year, a trend shared by other large caseworking organisations. However, the volunteers embraced new, Covid-compliant approaches to caseworking to ensure that they continued to support the beneficiaries, donating more than 900,000 hours of their time.

SSAFA Caseworkers can provide experienced, non-judgmental and friendly advice, as well as practical services which cover a wide range of social, family and financial issues.

Covid-19 has resulted in a significant fall in some sources of income, notably fundraising events which have had to be cancelled.

It is our aim to raise as much as possible to allow SSAFA to continue supporting members of the Armed Forces, both Regular and Reserves, veterans and their families, knowing they can depend on SSAFA for support now and for the rest of their lives.
