Story

MANCHESTER SONGWRITER RELEASES CHARITY SINGLE AFTER WRITING A SONG A DAY DURING LOCKDOWN

Like many musicians Ben P Williams lost all his work overnight as the measures to tackle Coronavirus made live gigs impossible. When the Manchester based singer-songwriter found himself in lockdown on his own, he set himself a challenge to write a song a day for the month of April as a way to pass the time. One of those songs, ‘Things in my House’, will be released as an official single on the 26th May to raise money for 'Age Uk' and 'Mind' charities- after it attracted 12k views on Facebook within just one week.

Each day of the challenge Ben wrote and recorded a new tune to share on social media. What started with just Ben and his acoustic guitar soon grew into something more. As he figured out how to work Zoom and use his new camera, the project developed to include virtual cowrites, elaborate videos, and a big collaboration on the final day to showcase all 16 artists he had worked with.

As a songwriter Ben would normally take inspiration from the places he goes, people he meets, and things he sees. However with opportunities for that being limited, he had to look closely at his immediate surroundings whilst writing ‘Things in my House’. It’s a list of all the things he found in his house that rhyme. To raise awareness and celebrate the release, Ben is also launching the #ThingsInMyHouseChallenge: asking people to come up with a short verse of their own with things in their house that rhyme.
