Story
Last year, our world was turned upside down when Adam experienced a medical emergency that started with a severe headache. At first, we thought it was just a regular headache, but when the pain wouldn’t subside even with painkillers and became excruciating, we had no choice but to rush to the hospital.
Within just two hours, doctors confirmed our worst fears—Adam needed emergency brain surgery. He was transferred to Queen Square, London, where the surgeons successfully drained excess fluid that had built up in his brain, a condition known as hydrocephalus. However, the scans revealed an even more devastating discovery: Adam had a brain tumour.
The news was both shocking and heartbreaking. The tumour is located in a deep and central part of his brain, making it impossible for doctors to perform a biopsy or consider surgical removal. We were left grappling with so many unanswered questions: What is this tumour? How will it affect Adam’s future?
The aftermath of the surgery brought its own challenges. Adam woke up with significant short- and long-term memory loss, which continues to affect him even now. He experienced temporary vision problems and other complications, but the hardest part was the lack of aftercare. We felt completely alone and lost, unsure of how to navigate the road ahead.
Despite everything, Adam is showing incredible courage as he processes his diagnosis and adjusts to his new reality. It has been a traumatic experience for all of us, but his strength and determination inspire us every day.
This journey has taught us just how fragile life can be and how important it is to keep fighting, even in the face of uncertainty.
This charity has been an absolute beacon of hope for us. The Hillingdon Brain Injury and Tumour Charity stepped in when we felt lost and unsupported. They provided us with the emotional guidance, practical advice, and community connection we desperately needed.
Through their support, Adam has been able to access resources that help him manage his memory loss and other ongoing challenges. They’ve also given us as a family the tools and understanding to navigate this life-changing situation with more confidence and less fear.
What’s incredible about this charity is not just the services they offer but the genuine care they show to every person who reaches out to them. They truly go above and beyond to make sure families like ours don’t feel alone during such a difficult time.
We want to share our story to raise awareness about the vital work they do. If you or someone you know is facing a similar battle, please consider reaching out to them. They are based in Southbourne Gardens in Eastcote, and their doors are always open.
We are so grateful for their support and are committed to helping them continue their work—whether through donations, fundraising, or simply spreading the word. Let’s ensure that no one else has to face such challenges without the aftercare and compassion they need
