Story

For over three decades Afghanistan has been amidst a war, which has been detrimental to the standard of living for millions of Afghans. Violence continues to disproportionately impact children and women, who represent over 40 per cent of all civilian casualties recorded during the first half of 2020. The Afghan population has continued to see struggle as they persevere to survive through the unbearable conditions placed upon them. The effects of the Covid-19 pandemic continue to worsen the state of the country, whilst already fighting the plague that is poverty. Hunger is a rising issue in Afghanistan which is detrimental to the population.

It is estimated that the poverty rate increased up to 72% in 2020, and is one of the worst conflict-affected countries in the world. This increasing statistic is threatening the livelihood of the people of Afghanistan, as they continue to suffer due to the lack of aid available. This is especially significant during the holy month of Ramadan, where individuals continue to fast and are met with near-to-nothing to break this hunger at the end of the day. The scarcity of resources within the country make living standards for those in the country extremely difficult as caregivers grapple to provide for those dependent on them. Basic necessities such as water and food, which is seen as a given for many of us, are scarce for the people of Afghanistan.

“Charity does not decrease wealth.” - Prophet Muhammad (S.A.W)
