Story
Hi everyone, thanks for visiting our JustGiving page. We are trying to raise money for a cause very important to us!
Ryan's sister, Amy - known in the family as Princess Amy Louise - P.A.L - lost a long and hard fought battle with cancer on 16th May 2022 at the age of 38.
Amy showed staggering levels of bravery and determination throughout over 2 and a half years worth of intensive, invasive treatment, aided by her unwavering stubborn streak. Unfortunately all forms of treatment were exhausted and the illness took her away from us and left a huge hole in our family.
During the course of her treatment Amy went to Katharine House in the first instance for some respite care, then returning to receive palliative care until the end of her life. She would speak regularly about how much she loved it there and her family witnessed how amazing the staff are, and the treatment received there is. We cannot state how highly we think of Katharine house!
Ryan and Amy discussed fundraising for Katharine House and when Kilimanjaro was mentioned Amy said she would love to have a go at it when she got better. Since Amy's passing, Ryan decided to look into things further, and found a trip which is due to summit on what would have been Amy's 40th birthday. Perfect.
Losing a family member - or anyone - at what feels like such an unjust or unfair young age can be hard to cope with. Made all the easier when you have pillars of strength like Andy in your life. Although currently residing in the USA he has been a constant support for the family and has been there for us at every step.
Ryan and Andy grew up together and became almost inseperable in their teenage years, becoming just extensions of each others families. Climbing this mountain together will be an unbelievable opportunity and if we can raise money for our local hospice while doing it then that would be amazing. We are looking to raise at least £2600 EACH but we truly believe we can go above and beyond this, please help us smash this target!
Ryan and Kev have known each other for the best part of 20 years, and have celebrated many life events together, they regularly holiday together and work together at Collins Aerospace in Wolverhampton.
It costs Katharine House just over £3m to provide all of their services free of charge, and of that £2m is raised by their supporters.
Katharine House provides free hospice care services in Mid Staffordshire for people faced with an illness that cannot be cured. Our aim is to enable our patients and those close to them to live as fully as possible and make the most of the time that's left.
If you've read this far well done and thank you!
We really appreciate any donation and every share of our page. Let's get up this mountain!
