Story

14 AIG colleagues are running the Manchester 10k on Sunday in support of a brilliant cause Cure Leukaemia. On the day our thoughts will very much with Kerry and in memory of her father Robert who very sadly passed away in 2024 and others families impacted in hope that they can access new and highly effective and potentially lifesaving treatments as they become available.

Team AIG includes Kerry Wright, Ray Cairns, Sharon Davies, Luke Howard, Nick Denham, Jess Worrall, Kate Fenn, John Harkin, Saima Munir, Tom Rusinek, Pete Chapman, Megan Pinder, Scott Hewitt and John Carr.

Kerry has provided a few words about her father Robert and the truly devastating impact of blood cancer:

"Our Dad, Robert, was a loving family man, and was enjoying his recent retirement. He doted on his wife, 3 children and 5 grandchildren and would do anything to help anyone.

He started with a chronic cough around Christmas 2023 and that cough never got any better or went away. At the beginning of the six weeks school holidays last year, he just seemed his usual self, albeit appeared to be getting tired a bit quicker. He enjoyed a family break in Weymouth, Dorset but just a few weeks later, towards the end of the holidays, he was in hospital, with suspected Lymphoma, a blood cancer, that had gone undiagnosed. A high grade, aggressive form of Lymphoma was confirmed. He was told it was treatable, and he would be home the same week with a treatment plan. However, the Lymphoma had spread so fast, he passed away aged 72 years, of complications which had led to sepsis.

Aside from his passion for supporting the RNLI, with friends in the local community launching a memory to inscribe his name on Exmouth’s RNLI Shannon Class Lifeboat, Robert, was a devoted blood and platelets donor. He generously donated 250 pints over the years, helping to save hundreds of lives, had several milestones honoured, and even made the local news.

We know our Dad would like to keep on giving and help to save more lives and that’s why we are now raising for Cure Leukaemia".
