Story
i have very few beliefs, but peckham is the best neighbourhood in london and that is the hill I will die on.
i would be very happy if you could help me mark the end of my era at the Foundation by making a donation to one of three charities that do essential, skilled, under-recognised work supporting my local community.
some totally unrelated further reading/resources on peckham:
- "the centre" - incredible archive film with an account of 'the peckham experiment' a radical approach to whole family/community health from the 1930s, whose subscription business model was ultimately fatally undermined by the founding of the NHS https://player.bfi.org.uk/free/film/watch-the-centre-1947-online
- "the ballad of peckham rye" by muriel spark > less well known than the prime of miss jean brody, but I think a superior tale - the devil comes to SE15 https://uk.bookshop.org/p/books/the-ballad-of-peckham-rye-muriel-spark/297576
- "rye lane" - a zippy, saturated-hue and very funny modern romantic comedy that provides exceptional location spotting for south londoners currently streaming on disney+ https://www.disneyplus.com/en-gb/movies/rye-lane/6bej2BywiV4Z
