Story

What Kingston Hospital Means to Us.

In 2017-2018 our incredible father fell ill and spent a lot of time in Kingston Hospital. During this time, the hospital became our second home. Not only did he get the best medical treatment but also always with a sincere smile. Kingston Hospital and the NHS are sacred organizations to him and he taught us that we should not take them for granted. When asked if he would ever go private, he would say “definitely not”. His faith in NHS was big and he felt at ease at K.H. The excellent support and the kindness they offered him were also extended to us. When we would visit him we would also be greeted with smiles and respect.

During a really difficult time in our lives, we were given the chance to spend quality time with him and even create new, beautiful memories.

When things were tough my sister and I were lucky to be able to stay in The Family Room set up by the Hospital Charity. We were able to spend the night at the hospital and stay close to our father while having a quiet place to rest. We celebrated his birthday on Bronte Ward, we watched the World Cup in the cosy tv room, we even enjoyed Christmas carolers singing and giving out gifts. We knew most of the staff by name and they knew us. In fact, when we see them out shopping they still stop to ask how we are.

I guess what I am trying to express is that the hospital is so important to our local community, I personally know at least 300 or more whose lives have been touched by and who have been cared for by the hospital during births, in sickness and in death. There is no doubt that this place is fulfilling the promise of providing “Cradle to Grave Care” care for all. It is also a place where you will find staff from all over the world, all ages, all races, all classes and religions all working together to care for people regardless of their backgrounds. Its a really special and colorful place.

For a long time we have been thinking of the best way to give back to all the people who keep the hospital open and turning; The Cleaners, Doctors, Nurses, Porters, Canteen staff, Palliative Care team Drivers, Chaplin/Imam and Admin.

And what better time to help than now? At this moment the hospital needs all of our support more than ever. We can make sure they can fight this Covid-19 pandemic while staying safe and well. We can let them know we got their backs.

In memory of our father, our family will be donating to the hospital and would like to ask you to donate any amount that you can afford. No help is too small. If you are unable to donate at this moment then we ask that you do the best you can to help by staying home and keeping the hospital in your thoughts and prayers.

On behalf of my late father Ahmed Idris Ali and the whole Ali/Yacoub Family we thank you for your support and generosity. We also hope that you are all safe and well during these strange and difficult times.

♥️

Peace
