Story

Bow & Ammie are raising money for Protection Against Stalking which is a charity based in Kent to support victims of stalking and harassment. Stalking and harassment makes up 33% of all police recorded violence.

Within the last 6 months Ammie's mum has been the victim of stalking by a stranger, involving threats and verbal abuse.

PAS recently has provided invaluable support in assisting her with this awful offence; they liaised with the Police Officer assigned to the case, and continue to support through the legal process.

We think it’s super important that people know they’re not powerless or alone in these traumatic and overwhelming situations so we thought we would dedicate our half marathon to the charity to bring attention to the great work they do & the support they give to victims!!

We’ve lifted the below from the PAS website:

Why there is a need for PAS

Very few charities provide specialist stalking support and advice to victims in the UK

There is no other specialist stalking charity in Kent

1 in 5 women and 1 in 10 men will be stalked

94% of women murdered by a man were stalked prior to being murdered

43% of stalking victims have not been in an intimate relationship with their stalker

100 instances of stalking will be experienced before being reported to the police

Violence occurs in an average of 30-40% of stalking cases

54% of stalking cases are linked to domestic abuse

57% experienced stalking during an intimate relationship or as an immediate response to end the relationship

21 people around the victim (friends, family, colleagues) will be affected by the stalking behaviour

80% of victims of stalking display symptoms of PTSD

Cyber stalking is now more common than physical harassment

Stalkers’ actions often seem unremarkable which may explain why some victims suffer this behaviour over a prolonged period of time before reporting it.

Some police officers focus on single incidences rather than look at a whole pattern of behaviour
