Story
St Wilfrid's Moonlight Walk 2026!
In May 2025, I sadly lost my husband and best friend of over 30 years.
Andrew was diagnosed with cancer in August 2024. One of my worries after hearing of his prognosis, was, how am I going to look after him towards the end of his life?
In March 2025, we first had contact with St Wilfrid's Hospice through their community support team. While treating Andrew with the utmost respect, they gave my sister in law, Christine, and I the support to be able to care for Andrew at home.
Andrew spent his last 2 weeks in the hospice. The care that he received was compassionate and dignified. The staff also did a remarkable job of looking after myself and Christine. We had friendly staff to talk to and they guided us through our darkest hours. We had laughter and tears. Nothing was too much trouble, and we were made to feel like we all mattered. It was Andrew' s wish to die at the hospice, and St Wilfrid’s provided this for him in the manner described above. The support for Christine and I hasn’t ended and they are still there for us if we need it
I want to be able to raise money for St Wilfred’s so that other families can receive the same level of end-of-life care.
