Raising money for The British Red Cross Society and Practical Action

Story

As you may know, we recently travelled to Nepal for one of the most remarkable months of our lives, during our trip we stayed with many wonderful people in the affected Rasuwa district. We set out early to drive the 70-odd miles from Kathmandu. The journey took most of the day, our Jeep bouncing alongside the Trishuli River. The road then was largely covered in landslides and rock falls. The route is one of the major roads between Tibet and Nepal's capital, but prior to the flood was already an unreliable route for essential provisions to get into the remote mountain areas.

We slept our first night in the beautiful valley town of Syrapu Besi, which is thought to be very badly damaged, and notably we have not seen any footage from this area. It is devestating to think many of the people who welcomed us into their homes may have lost their lives, loved ones or livelihoods in this catastrophy.

Our friend and trekking guide, Agbir Lama, is from this region and is currently in the affected region trying to rescue people, but efforts are frequently being hindered by the destruction of bridges, warnings of further floods and the scale of the disaster.

We would be very grateful of any donation you can make to help support the urgent relief efforts and the long term redevelopment this area will desperately need.

About Practical Action

Practical Action has worked closely with communities in Nepal since 1979. By combining technical expertise and local knowledge, our projects have led to improvements in climate resilience, agriculture, energy access, and entrepreneurship. We consistently put communities’ voices and needs at the centre of project design. To ensure that positive impacts have longevity and continuity beyond our involvement, we also work in partnership with the private sector, government institutions, civil society and community groups.
