Story
I am running the London Marathon on Sunday 26th April - this will be my 5th, and FINAL, marathon so help me 'retire' in style! I am raising funds for 2 great charities - Diabetes UK and Refuweegee.
Diabetes UK provides information and support for those who have Diabetes and crucially their researchers work tirelessly to find a cure. Find out more here: https://www.diabetes.org.uk/ Lived experience of Type 1 Diabetes ‘My life as a type 1 diabetic is very different from other 18 year olds. I have to consider how every single thing I do will effect my diabetes. Eating, sleeping, walking to the shops, going out with friends, etc. It can feel suffocating and overwhelming, but the increasing research into new solutions and a possible cure make it easier to manage and gives me hope for the future. A lot has progressed in the 11 years since my diagnosis, and that's thanks to the hard work of researchers, fundraisers and doctors. I will always be so grateful for their help.’ (Mairi, 18)
Refuweegee (ref-u-wee-gee) is a Glasgow based charity who aim to enable the existing community in extending the friendly welcome that Glasgow is world renowned for. They do this through welcome packs, events and our volunteer opportunities. We try to provide everyone who wishes to get involved with an opportunity to do so; be it through writing a letter, donating essential items, joining us at an event or fundraising. 'We're all fae somewhere'. Find out more here: https://www.refuweegee.co.uk/
