Story
Hi everyone and welcome to our fundraising page for Alzheimer disease!
We are "A Step Closer," a team of six dedicated researchers working for the UK Dementia Research Institute, committed to advancing our understanding of Alzheimer disease and developing new treatments to combat this debilitating illness. With our combined experience and passion, we aim to make a difference in the lives of those affected by Alzheimer disease and their beloved ones.
Alzheimer disease is a progressive neurodegenerative disorder with an estimated 50 million people worldwide currently living with it, and this number is expected to triple by 2050. It is the most common cause of dementia, accounting for up to 70% of all cases. AD is characterized by the accumulation of abnormal proteins in the brain, which lead to the death of brain cells and a decline in cognitive function. Symptoms of Alzheimer disease typically begin with memory loss, but can progress to include confusion, difficulty communicating, and a loss of independence. This have significant impacts on individuals, families, and society as a whole. The caregiving burden for individuals with Alzheimer disease can be substantial, and there are significant economic costs for both individuals and society.
To support the cause and raise awareness, we are taking on a physical challenge by walking 26 miles around London on the 3rd of June. That's approximately 42 kilometers! Our goal is to raise £1500 to support Alzheimer research and bring us "A Step Closer" to finding a cure for this disease.
By donating to our cause, you can help us make a difference in the lives of those affected by Alzheimer disease. Let's take "A Step Closer" to finding a cure and improving the lives of millions of people worldwide. Thank you for your support!
