Swim one mile across the Camel Estuary on Friday 8 August 2025 and raise money to help Marie Curie Nurses continue to care for people at the end of life, whatever the illness.

Story

On 8 August 2025, we will be swimming one mile across the Camel Estuary, from Padstow to Rock, and to raise money to help Marie Curie Nurses continue to care for people at the end of life, whatever the illness.

Becky has been wanting to do this swim for a while, and it seemed fitting to do it this year, in memory of Phil, her mums partner of many years who passed away in a hospice, after 3 years of cancer treatment. We all know of people who have needed hospice care and will remember them even more so on the day of the swim.

While this may not be the longest challenge we've undertaken, the tide can make it a challenging swim. Donna has never done a sea swim before, so we are excited for her as she faces the challenge! We all know sea swimming is harder than a lake or pool. It also falls when Sara turns 50 and Ellen has a birthday while we're away for the swim. So we will be living life the best we can - so important given how quickly situations, like the tide, can change.

All the money raised will help Marie Curie provide vital care and support to people living with a terminal illness, and their families at the toughest time.

£3 helps fund a meal for a patient in one of our hospices.

£26 helps help fund an hour of bereavement support by phone or webchat.

£207 helps fund nine hours of overnight nursing care in a patient's home.
