Big & Little Addison fundraising for 10% For The Ocean

Raising money for 10% For The Ocean

Edinburgh Marathon 2025 · 25 May 2025 ·

The ocean feeds us, regulates our climate, generates most of the oxygen we breathe and it’s home to more than 80% of life on Earth. Help us protect it! 10% for the Ocean is a non-profit organisation serving as a key gateway for ocean conservation efforts. Empowering a global alliance of local organisations, we fund and advocate for initiatives that drive positive and equitable change, ensuring the protection, recovery, and support of our planet's most precious resource: the Ocean. 10% For The Ocean supports the Ocean Recovery Network, a group of charities committed to saving and protecting our Ocean and the lives that depend on it. In line with the principles of localization and participation, we make a conscious effort to select grantees who are committed to sustainable practices, community engagement, innovation, and measurable impact. We envision a future where the oceans thrive with biodiversity, sustainably managed resources, and resilient ecosystems, supported by a global community.

Story

Will (hi!) & Becky (helloo!) are running Edinburgh marathon on 25 May 2025, and are aiming to raise some money for a good cause in the process. It’s both of our first official marathons!

For those of you know me (Becky) know that I've spent a lot of my adult life trying to understand and get closer to our climate crisis. Whilst the planet is the home of all the problems I truly believe that is also the home to all the solutions. AND I have SO much respect for those that dedicate their lives so that we don't have too, to help start cleaning up the mess we've made. That is what 10% of the ocean do. WOW!

A little bit about them:

The Crisis We Cannot Ignore

The ocean covers over 70% of our planet, produces more than half the oxygen we breathe, and regulates our climate—yet it receives less than 1% of global philanthropic funding. In 2022, just $0.9 billion was directed toward ocean conservation globally out of the $811 billion donated worldwide.

Meanwhile:

90% of global fish stocks are overfished or exploited

A garbage truck’s worth of plastic enters the ocean every minute

Destructive bottom trawling destroys seabed ecosystems the size of the UK every year

This chronic underfunding is pushing marine ecosystems toward collapse. If we don’t change how we fund ocean recovery, we risk losing the very system that sustains life on Earth.

Help us contribute to their amazing cause through watching Will ace the race and me struggle my way through! A small donation would be much appreciated :)
