Story
The members of the Blakemore Lab are fundraising for Sobell House Hospice and Motor Neurone Disease Association in memory of Professor Sir Colin Blakemore.
As well as being a hugely influential neurobiologist, pioneering science communicator, and father to Sarah-Jayne Blakemore (PI of the Blakemore Lab), Colin was an avid marathon runner. He completed a total of 18 marathons with the quickest time of 2 hours 43 minutes! We thought it would be fitting to pay tribute to his life and achievements through a fundraising run.
On 22nd November at 3 pm we will run a route through Cambridge, passing by some memorable places in Colin’s life including Corpus Christi College, where he studied as an undergraduate, and Downing College, where he was Director of Medical Studies.
In addition, over the next few weeks before this final run, we will all be individually running and submitting our times and distances here: LINK TO PAGE
We invite others, including Colin’s colleagues and friends, as well as anyone else who would like to join us, in submitting their own times and distances for their individual runs (anonymously or otherwise). At the final run on 22nd November, we will reveal the total collective distance and time. If you would like to join us for the final run, please contact bp451@cam.ac.uk
Sobell House Hospice provided excellent care and support to Colin towards the end of his life and we are very grateful for any donations to this exceptional organisation, so that they can continue providing dignified palliative care.
Colin lived with Motor Neuron Disease for 18 months of his life and before this was the President for the Motor Neurone Disease Association. Any donations to the incredible MNDA will go towards the MNDA Oxfordshire branch, where it will provide crucial support to those with MND and their loved ones.
Thank you to everyone who joins us in running, and a huge thank you to anyone who would like to donate to these worthy causes!
