BMHC Scout Group TURKIYE & Syria Earthquake Sponsored Hike

All hands on deck! 90 Muslim scouts between the ages of 4 and 18 and their leaders will be doing a sponsored 1.5 hour Hike along the River Mersey to raise funds for those affected by the recent earthquake in Turkiye & Syria. Proceeds will go to Action for Humanity, a charity providing relief on the ground, based in the North West. The hike will be held on 26/2/2023. The Explorer Night Hike is on the 1/3/2023

On 6 February 2023, a catastrophic and destructive magnitude 7.8 earthquake struck southern and central Turkiye as well as northern and western Syria.

THE SCENES COMING from Turkiye and Syria in the aftermath of the earthquake are truly distressing. So many dead and injured, so much destruction.

Our belief creates a bond that rises above any barriers or borders. The Prophet ﷺ: ‘The parable of the believers in their affection, mercy, and compassion for each other is that of a body. When any limb aches, the whole body reacts with sleeplessness and fever.’ (Bukhārī)

All these thoughts push us to action.

We call on Allah to accept as martyrs those who have passed away, to ease the suffering of those who are left behind, and to enable us to come to their aid in the best way.

The Prophet ﷺ said: ‘Whoever relieves the hardship of a believer in this world, Allah will relieve his hardship on the Day of Resurrection. Whoever helps ease one in difficulty, Allah will make it easy for him in this world and the Hereafter.’ (Muslim)

There are those who can help physically in the relief efforts. There are those who can support by giving to charity. There are those who can make others aware and call them to help. Everyone has a role that they can play, little or great and this is what we teach our scouts and this is how we show them how to live Islam.

‎ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ لَا يُضِيعُ أَجْرَ ٱلْمُحْسِنِينَ

Indeed, Allah does not allow to be lost the reward of the doers of good. (at-Tawbah 120)
