Sarahs story - ‘this wasn’t on my bingo card for 2026 but back in December I was at work on a Monday morning, looking at this poster on the back of the toilet door and I realised I had about 4 of the symptoms shown.. I wouldn’t have known these were signs of breast cancer without that poster, and it wasn’t until the next day that I noticed a lump. By the Wednesday evening I had been diagnosed with an aggressive form of breast cancer which had spread to my lymph nodes, and since then I’ve had more appointments/scans/procedures/injections than the rest of my life combined.
I really hope that by sharing this story I can spread awareness - I’m 32 years old with no family history of breast cancer, and have always shared the probably very common and perhaps naive view that this wouldn’t ever happen to me. One of the most common responses I had when telling friends and family was that they were also totally unaware that the initial symptoms I had were signs of breast cancer.
This has all happened very quickly for me, my body has been put into early menopause and I’ll be on hormone treatment for the rest of my life, but if I can help 1 other person catch it early then by raising awareness and also raising funds for research then it’ll add to the very small list of positives.
I also need to say the biggest thank you to the troops who have rallied round and been the most supportive bunch - it really does take a village and mine are some of the best out there🥰
