On September 25th, 2024, I experienced the tragic loss of my husband while I was 32 weeks pregnant.
Liam possessed exceptional strength and a remarkable mindset that enabled him to accomplish any goal he set for himself. He was always active, whether cycling up Pen-y-Ghent at 6 a.m. or running during a 72-hour fast.
In loving memory, and to benefit the Loose Headz foundation, our family and friends will be participating in two events:
The first, on March 15th, will see over 60 of us undertaking the Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge, a 24-mile hike across three mountains. This was a plan of ours, having previously enjoyed many hikes up Pen-y-Ghent together.
The second event is the Leeds Marathon, May 11th, for which I have been training since seven weeks after my C-section. I will be running 26 hilly miles, alongside our brother, sister, brother-in-law, my best friend April, Liam's best friends James, Marcus and Danny, Liam's rugby teammates along with some of our friends. Liam had planned to participate in the marathon this year; however, it would have been an easy feat for him, as he once spontaneously ran a half marathon after getting up from the sofa. He never quite understood why I hated running during training together always saying, "It's just one foot in front of the other." That mindset has helped me navigate life since his passing.
Your support and donations are deeply appreciated and a testament to how much Liam was loved. Thank you. I am looking forward to participating in these events to honour his memory, 'pound the tarmac' and make him proud!
LooseHeadz is a rugby’s mental health charity, on a mission to save lives. They do this by placing a mental health lead at every rugby club around the world & providing them with a toolkit of free resources designed to support the wellbeing of players, coaches & fans. They already work with 1,200 rugby clubs in 28 different countries & have recently announced ambitious new plans for providing further mental health support in rugby. This new initiative is designed to bridge the gap in mental health support by addressing the barriers people face, such as long waiting times or expensive private care. LooseHeadz are now hoping to raise £1million, which will allow the charity to host the platform, provide training for 500 clubs and mental health leads, and roll out the Onebright clinical support service at 100 clubs. Join the movement, & together we can #TackleTheStigma.
